Hamilton says rivals will be quicker in the hot Hungarian weather

Hamilton: If you look at Hungary last year the Red Bull was light years ahead of everyone. If you look at Valencia this year, Red Bull and Ferrari were massively quick in the hot conditions, and I expect them to be the same again this weekend. Naturally we will try to improve, but I do think we will have to wait until next year before our car is maybe as good as theirs. We'll see. Maybe we'll turn up there and be quick, maybe we'll have cooler conditions and it will be perfect for us.

Alonso remembers Massa's accident and his first victory at the Hungarian GP

Alonso

I know the Hungarian Grand Prix has a special significance for the Scuderia, as it has experienced some great moments, but also some dramatic ones, like when Felipe was injured in that fluke accident when he was hit by a part of Rubens’ Brawn. Budapest is special for me too, as it was at this very race in 2003 that I took my first ever Formula 1 win. It was a very emotional day, the memory of which will always stay with me.

Ferrari must further improve its car to get closer to the front says Alonso

Alonso

We have made up a lot of ground compared to the very early part of the season in terms of performance, but we must take a further step forward, as I have said so often before. We still lack something, especially in qualifying: it’s true that in the race we can make up for this, but it’s not always possible to move up two places compared to our grid position, as happened in Monaco, Valencia, Silverstone and Nurburgring. At the Hungaroring, the weather should be more in keeping with summer, which is no bad thing as I’ve had enough of the cold and damp we experienced in England and Germany! That goes not just for me, but also for our car: it would definitely work better in temperatures higher than the 13° we had last Sunday.

McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh says Vettel is not cracking under pressure.

Martin Whitmarsh

"He wasn't under that much pressure. He was out of the race [in terms of victory], in my opinion, when he made his mistakes. People may characterise it as cracking under pressure, but in fairness I don't think that was the case. They were simply mistakes. Drivers make them, so do teams, all human beings. So it's not him cracking under pressure, but self-evidently he simply made a couple of mistakes. You could even say he made them at the right time, when he wasn't winning. I'd like to have seen some of those mistakes when he was leading a race, but it can also swing the other way.He has done a pretty good job so far this year, so I don't think he is cracking."

Ferrari track boss explains the logistics of back to back races

Ferrari head of Track Operations - Diego Ioverno

"As all back to back races, the move from one track to another is quite complicated from a logistical point of view. The cars were stripped down on Sunday evening in the Nurburgring garages to check all the parts and to see if there were any problems highlighted by studying the car data. Then, some components had to go back to Maranello for a more detailed inspection and rebuild before being shipped to Budapest. The majority of the team travelled directly from Germany to Hungary, with others heading back to Maranello first."

Trulli happy to return to the cockpit at the Hungarian GP

Jarno Trulli – car #21, chassis T128-01: I’m obviously pleased to be back in the car and looking forward to getting on track in Hungary. The Hungarian Grand Prix is held on one of the typical modern Formula 1 circuits - it’s pretty stop / start and has a lot of low speed corners with nothing really quick. It's very bumpy and hilly, and it's always very hot, so it's a big challenge for the cars and the drivers but I do enjoy the race there as it pushes the drivers physically, and getting a good lap requires concentration and focus.

McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh says its impossible to predict who will be fastest at this weekend's Hungarian GP.

Martin Whitmarsh:

"I think giving predictions in this sport is virtually impossible. There is a see-saw of form here and I don't think we can say that this victory shows them we are on a roll. I don't think we are. I think we have to say that yes we could win. We can win or it can see-saw and go the other way, so we will be working very, very hard to make sure that we do the best job possible in the next race."

The Hungarian GP will be more exciting this season because of DRS says Sauber's Kobayashi.

Hamilton's victory in the German GP boosted him to 5th in the Castrol EDGE rankings.

Williams removed KERS for the German GP to find out what effect it would have on tyres and as a result will use it again in Hungary.

Williams tech boss Sam Michael

"We have had doubts over KERS in the past with controlling the brake balance under braking, where you end up with quite a difficult situation.

"We always felt in the past that the few times in races where we have turned it off, it has actually been better on rear tyre degradation. There is no doubt in qualifying that it is better because it gives you three and a half tenths because you can go out and we don't have to charge KERS for qualifying.

"Some guys are obviously more on top of their changing than we are, so the penalty for running it is something that we thought we could try at this track. We were planning to try and do it here."

Button: My pace was good compared to the guys in front, [Felipe] Massa and [Sebastian] Vettel, so it was all looking quite exciting. I had a lot of fun out there and then we had a hydraulic issue and I had to retire the car on safety grounds. You never know what's going to happen with hydraulics, because obviously the steering is hydraulic and so is the gearshifts and what have you.

Alonso very happy with second position in the German GP.

Alonso: I am extremely happy with today's result. We had a weekend that probably was not the easiest one. We struggled a bit on Friday, in qualifying we were fourth, half a second from pole so no doubts that we struggled a bit more with the weekend. But even with the difficulties we are second and fighting for victory, so this is a fantastic achievement. Second in Valencia, first at Silverstone and second here. With three different rules, three different maps, we were constantly first and second on three different circuit and with different temperatures, so with all these conditions we saw consistency that put us in a good position to enjoy this final part of the championship.

Schumacher: My spin caught me by complete surprise, but that spot is known to be tricky in wet conditions, even if the conditions were not so wet today. Anyway, it obviously cost me some positions which was a shame. Towards the end, rain could have helped but the chances were low so I did not count on it. All in all, I am OK with the race. With the little improvements we have made, we can look forward to Hungary now.

Mark Webber. "Christian put his view forward of how the situation built and he came to decision he made, and I put my case forward in how the situation built and we thought that we were both making the right decision, him to make the call for the team's interest and I was in a situation where I was trying to improve my own position."

"We spoke about it, he guaranteed me that it would have been the same situation the other way around if Seb was closing in on me, he would have still shut the race down. It was over pretty quick really. If there is a similar situation, it is not often that you are closing in the last few laps, that was the awkward one I think."

"We are still free to race most of the time - it was an awkward one and it is not often that things like that happen in terms of the time of the race, and up until then we will be racing."

The rule change at Silverstone has not help Ferrari to victory says Alonso

Kovalainen hopes for mixed weather conditions at this weekend's German GP.

Heikki Kovalainen - Lotus
“This is our first visit to the Nurburgring as Team Lotus as we were are Hockenheim last year, so I’m looking forward to taking the green and yellow to the new Nurburgring which, while it’s not the same as where we will have been filming, it still has a good mix of elevation changes and high and low speed sections. Finding the right downforce level takes a bit of work as you don’t want to compromise your speed on the straights, particularly from T11 to T13, but you also need to have as much grip as possible through the tight sections, especially into T1 and the chicane at T13 at the end of the lap where there you have the best chances of overtaking other cars. The weather is also usually a pretty big factor at the Nurburgring. It’s almost exactly like Spa in the way it can be hot and sunny one minute and then heavy rain the next, and I personally love racing in those sorts of changeable conditions. Going from a dry track to a wet one on the same lap is the what racing drivers should have to deal with as much as possible, so, while it’s not great for the spectators sitting in the stands, I hope we have exactly that sort of mixed up weather!”

Team Lotus boss Tony Fernandes on Trulli

"He is a key member of our team and I hope that we can give him a car as soon as possible that allows him to utilise his considerable talent to the full. For this weekend he will be on hand to lend his huge experience and support to Karun and I am sure Jarno, Heikki and Karun will do me, the whole team and all our fans very proud indeed."

Team Lotus tech boss Mike Gascoyne's comments about Karun Chandhok replacing Jarno Trulli for the German GP

Mike Gascoyne: "I am delighted that we are able to give Karun a full weekend in the car. He has been a very good addition to our driver line-up and now we are giving him a chance to take the next step in fulfilling his potential.

"Jarno will be stepping aside for him for this race and we will use Karun's feedback over the weekend as a comparison against Jarno's and Heikki's experiences this season with a number of aspects of the car, including the power steering system, to help us keep moving forward in 2011 and beyond.

"I am sure Karun will equip himself very well in this and in his performances in and out of the car all weekend. The whole team is looking forward to helping him get the most out of his time in the cockpit in Germany and it will be good to see him grab this chance and make the most of it."
