Toro Rosso boss Franz Tost believes the team could have scored good points at Spa, but both cars were taken out by rival drivers.

Franz Tost: “Both our drivers had very short races, before being knocked out in incidents that were not their fault, a view supported by the race officials, who penalised Senna and Perez for the collisions with Jaime and Sebastien respectively. Of course, this is very disappointing given our strong showing in qualifying, which meant we were hoping to score a good number of points today."
Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner please with one-two finish at Spa a circuit on which they have not won before.

Horner: "It rounded off a great weekend for the team; it’s a lot of points in both championships and we have extended our lead in both the drivers’ and constructors’ at a circuit which we have not previously won at - so it’s a fantastic day for Red Bull.”

David Coulthard says Vettel could become the best F1 driver ever as he continue to improve as a driver.

Coulthard: Well, I think we could well be witnessing the development of the best driver ever in Formula One. We can’t say yet, of course. Only history will judge that. But the fact that Seb continues to improve every aspect of his game, from race craft to tyre management, building on his natural speed, is indisputable.

Buttons wants McLaren to take up the option they have on his contract for 2012.

Button: All he has to do is say yes, and I will say yes because I want to be here next year. It's up to the team as to when they approach me, but for me I'm the happiest I've been with the car.

Sauber needs to gather themselves up and go to the next race after a disappointing Belgian GP team boss James Key said.

James Key, Sauber technical director
“This was a disappointing result after a reasonably promising day yesterday, and the pace was not quite as good as it should have been either, so we need to look at why that was. We could and should have scored points today, but for various reasons it didn’t work out for us. Sergio did well to try and maintain his position at the start, but he had an incident with one of the Toro Rossos, which we need to look at, and subsequently got a drive through penalty, so that pushed him right down the order. There was some damage to his car and the rear axle, which we now need to investigate this as that was part of our problem, and we had to retire him. Kamui lost several places during the safety car period. We called him into the box but for some reason he came in a lap later, so there was a miscommunication that we need to look into. We have to gather ourselves up and go to the next race.”

DRS has created just the right level of entertainment at Spa says McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh.

Sutil happy with 7th at Spa after starting 15th.

Adrian Sutil (7th)

“After starting P15 we have to be very happy with our seventh place today. It was an exciting race with lots of action, but we had a good strategy and made the right calls at the right time. When the safety car came out I pitted straight away, which helped me because I made up a couple of places. I came out in sixth and after that I only lost one position to Schumacher, who was on the soft tyre and faster than me. Overall I think that this result is a fair reflection of the pace we have had this weekend and it’s nice to have recovered from the problems we had yesterday to leave here with these important points.”
Rosberg believes Mercedes GP can make more improvements for the Italian GP at Monza.

Tyre usages Ferrari's biggest issue and they need to focus on find a solution.

Domenicali.

"It is a shame because I think that Fernando did really a great race, always attacking. I think that unfortunately we are not happy about the result and the classification, and the other thing that for sure we cannot be happy about is the fact that when the tyres were not working at the proper [temperature] range we are not able to match the pace that we should be able to do. That is the biggest task that we need to work on the project for next year."

Red Bull Racing's win at Spa was unexpected says team boss Christian Horner.

Christian Horner: In many respects yes, because at this circuit power is a dominant factor - certainly in the first and third sector. So to come here, it is great to produce arguably one of our most competitive races of the season. We had very strong race pace. We thought it would perhaps favour some of our opponents more arriving here, but it shows how difficult it is to predict performance.

McLaren will continue to push Red Bull Racing's Sebastian Vettel in the last couple of races team boss Martin Whitmarsh said.

Whitmarsh: The championship looks pretty ambitious but at the moment we have to be positive, and the fans expect it. If Ferrari and McLaren say we are going to free-wheel now, I don't think that is the right message. I think the fans deserve a stronger battle than that.

Ferrari not happy with the result of the Belgian GP team boss Stefano Domenicali said.

Stefano Domenicali: “We definitely cannot claim to be happy with this result, but we must evaluate it objectively, without letting emotion get the better of us. We saw our car perform in two different ways, depending on what tyres it was running: very good on the Soft, especially with Fernando, but definitely lacking with the Medium. This explains how Fernando, who delivered an extraordinary performance, taking the lead and fighting for the win in the first stint, then gradually saw what would have been a very well deserved podium place slip from his grasp. Felipe began his race in a very aggressive fashion, but then he paid an even heavier price for our chronic difficulties on the harder tyre. The Safety Car definitely did not help, coming out just as our main rivals were struggling the most, which meant they could make up for their initial handicap. We know what is our Achilles Heel and we have to continue to work on it: we have made up ground in some areas, but on this one - I refer to the ideal window of operation for the tyres - we are still lagging behind. Now we go to Monza, our home race: our objective is unchanged, which means trying to win. I am convinced we can be on the pace, while aware of the fact we are up against very strong opponents.”

Massa had a strange Belgian GP due to tyre wear and finished 8th.

Massa: “It was rather a strange race for me. In the opening phase I was absolutely in the fight for the top places, but then I started to have tyre problems and the car seemed to no longer be so well balanced."
Red Bull Racing has put Pirelli in an unfair position with tyre blistering over the Belgian GP weekend.

Sauber's Sergio Perez blames Toro Rosso's Sebastien Buemi for Belgian GP accident.

Sauber's Kamui Kobayashi says Hamilton caused the accident between them at Spa.

Kobayashi: At the end of the straight, I was on the left and he was in the middle of the track. He came back and we had contact.

Safety car turned the race into Vettel's favour says Alonso.

Alonso: "The safety car came when we had done four laps on the tyres. The tyres were in very good shape, so we decided to stay out. I think the choice was good for us. It opened up the possibility to win the race for us. Unfortunately Vettel only lost one place [at his stop] with Webber and beat - by very little - Rosberg. And then in the restart he overtook Webber in Turn 1 so [there was] not much traffic for Vettel. So I think the decision was good, but the factors around the safety car were very good for Sebastian."

The final operation on Kubica's elbow was successful on Sunday and he can now begin the next phase of his rehabilitation.

Happy Vettel relieved after winning the Belgian GP.

Vettel: It’s a big relief after all the discussions we had going into the race. This morning disturbed our normal rhythm, as normally you know what you do when you arrive on Sunday morning, but today we had a lot of discussions which doesn’t make it easy to keep focused. Before the race, we decided the priority was simply to finish the race today and not think too much about where, so that’s why I am so happy with the result. It couldn’t have been any better. The car felt fantastic and with each lap we learned more and more about the tyres, which made us more confident to push when necessary.

Button hopes to fight for win in Monza after coming third at Spa.

Jenson Button (3rd)
It wasn’t as simple as just going from 13th to third today. At the start, somebody hit me at the rear and damaged a rear-wing endplate. At the exit of Turn One, there was debris everywhere, and somebody else’s front wing went through my front wing and sliced my right-side mirror off. I also had to make an early pit stop, so it was hardly perfect! The team had a look at the data and saw that the damage was manageable, so I held on for a few more laps in order to make the strategy work. Then, after that, I drove flat-out to the end of the race. I think everybody had an issue with the front-left tyre, so it was tricky to know when to push. But my pace was pretty good considering the damage we had, and I really enjoyed attacking and passing people. Our car is the best it’s been all year, and I feel better than I ever have in Formula One. We just need to stop the little mistakes from happening so that we can win even more races. Hopefully, we can go out and fight for the win in Monza.”

A world championship title with Mercedes GP is worth the wait says Schumacher.

Q. How do you feel after eighteen months of your Formula 1 comeback?
MS: I am physically fit, mentally ready and I like the challenge. After such a long break, you have to work your way back in again. That took some time. But I notice that things are coming together and keep getting better. I'm very confident that we will achieve our goal – perhaps a little later than planned, but that's the way life is sometimes. A world championship title with Mercedes is worth the wait.

Vettel does not have the title in the bag yets says teammate Webber.

Webber: No, not if Seb doesn't finish two races. I wouldn't just rely on someone not dominating. There are eight races to go, Seb is in a great position but it is not completely comfortable yet.

Webber says he is close to signing a new contract with Red Bull Racing for the 2012 F1 season.

Alonso does not agree with critics about Schumacher's return and his results.

Alonso: There are some critics of his return and his results, but I don't agree with those. Three years ago, Michael was watching F1 at home and now he is maybe finishing seventh or ninth, but I am sure that he is happy every morning because he is racing in F1 again and that's what he wants to do. Twenty years is a long time. If I think of myself, it will be 2021 if I am in F1 for 20 years. I don't think that I could do that. I want to congratulate him for these 20 years and tell him that it's a pleasure to race against him.

Button says the right strategy could see McLaren win the Belgian GP this weekend.

Button: We're in good shape. I don't think we'll have an advantage over the Red Bulls – they'll still be very strong - but if we call our strategy right then we've got a good chance of winning here, and we have to. Red Bull don't need to win. We do.

Vettel's early season dominance over says Red Bull Racing teammate Mark Webber.

Webber: No, that's over. I think that's over, in terms of having five, six or seven victories on the bounce. I think that is not going to happen. I think it will be more spread out.

Bruno Senna says he was happy when he heard the news that he will race for Renault

Senna: I was very happy, no doubt about it. I also felt very nervous at the prospect of getting into the car as a race driver again, as it’s not often you get an opportunity with a team of this stature. I’ve had some good opportunities with the team already this season – driving in Jerez in February, doing some aero-testing and also driving during the Friday practice in Budapest. I will put my whole heart into this new opportunity, and I’m looking forward to racing in a good car. I’m confident I’ll be able to provide the team with a good result at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Vitantonio Liuzzi keen to stay with HRT next season because of the efforts made by key members of the team.

Liuzzi: I would be happy [to stay] because I want to see the development of next year. Colin Kolles and Geoff Willis and a lot of people work really hard for this team and we show we can make big progress. I am looking forward. I think a good job could be made so I am happy to stay.

Sauber's Segio Perez now 100% fit to race after his Monaco qualifying accident

Perez: After my accident, it didn't take me a lot of time to get back into racing. But it took me a while to be back in the car feeling comfortable and being 100 per cent. It took me quite a while to get back to my optimum level and I really needed this break for my head to get properly better. I'm 100 per cent now and I'm looking forward to the next part of the reason.

Ferrari prepared something to celebrate Schumacher's 20 years in F1 says team boss Stefano Domenicali

Stefano Domenicali

“We have prepared a little something to mark this occasion. Even if today, he is our rival on the race track, Michael is still a friend and there is no way it could be any different, given everything we have shared over all these years, growing together. When I look at his career statistics, especially those established during his long time spent at Ferrari, I realise just how extraordinary they are. In fact I imagine they will never be repeated. I have so many personal memories linked to him, some of them actually to do with this circuit, as well as other particularly enjoyable ones, which makes it very difficult for me to single out any one in particular. I prefer to think of the future, which I am sure will also produce some very satisfying moments.”

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo says Schumacher will always be one of the most important figures in its history ahead of his 20 year celebration

Luca di Montezemolo:

“Michael was and will always be one of the most important figures in the history of Ferrari and he will always be in the hearts of all the men and women who work in Maranello and of all fans of the Prancing Horse. A large part of those twenty years of Formula 1 were spent with us. Together, we achieved results that will be difficult to repeat. His passion for racing is incredible, as is the effort he puts into it, along with the courage and determination he has always demonstrated, which won him the affection of us all. On behalf of everyone at Ferrari I wish to thank him for everything he did for us and I send him all our best wishes for this, his twentieth anniversary in the greatest sport in the world.”

Button praises Schumacher's 20 years in F1 by saying it is impressive.

Button: This is my 12th year in the sport. But 20 years...to be at the top of his game for that long is very impressive. For a driver, with the stresses and pressures that are on you, 20 years is a long time in the sport for anyone. Looking at it I'm only eight years behind. I can't see myself racing when I'm in my 40s, but there is always a possibility.

Nico Rosberg is Schumacher's strongest teammate ever.

Schumacher: Nico is definitely the strongest teammate I’ve had. In qualifying this year it is 10:1 in his favour. But I know that I can be faster than him.

MERCEDES GP PETRONAS
McLaren wants its drivers to take an aggressive approach for the rest of the season in an effort to beat Red Bull Racing.

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso send his best wishes to Schumacher for his achievements in 20 years in F1.

Alonso: Tomorrow is the start of what is a very special weekend for one driver who has played his part in the history of Formula 1 and Ferrari in particular: Michael Schumacher. It’s not for me to say he is the greatest of all time as usually, it is the numbers that do the talking: seven world titles, 91 wins, these are incredible records. I hold Michael in very high esteem and I feel honoured to have raced alongside him. When I came to Maranello, I realised even more how close are the ties that bind him to Ferrari and that is why I was particularly pleased with what Stefano had to say at the Wrooom Summer event, immediately before this break. I don’t know if in 2021 I will still be in Formula 1, it’s hard to say and this is a further confirmation of what an extraordinary career Michael has had. For my part, I want to take this opportunity to send him my very best wishes for this incredible landmark: twenty years is really an amazing achievement!

New upgrades for McLaren will see an improved qualifying form says MD Jonathan Neale.

Jonathan Neale:

In terms of closing the gap to red Bull, we have had a competitive race car for some time now. The qualifying pace is where we have been falling short. I'm pleased to say that - except for the slight blip at the British Grand Prix – the trend has been good and we have been closing in. We haven't got the cars in the right part of the grid, but we are developing at a better rate and there are a series of upgrades planned for these next two races.

The 2012 F1 season does not have many regulation changes and that mean Ferrari's new car will be an extended development of 2011 car.

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali: As far as next year's regulations are concerned, apart from rules regarding the exhaust system, there are not many changes; therefore the new cars can be described as a development of the 2011 car. However, what I can say, having seen the model in the wind tunnel and the work going on in the drawing office, is that it will be a very innovative machine.

Eric Boullier: We are now at a point where we switch a lot of our resources to next year's car, which of course adds new challenges. Crucially, we need to see what impact our upgrades have at the forthcoming races in Spa, Monza and Singapore.

Webber expects a very competitive race at Spa on Sunday.

Webber: I expect this weekend to be the same – a tight, competitive fight between Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull. It was great to re-charge the batteries ready for the second part of the championship and it was really good to spend some time with family and friends. But three weeks is plenty, you certainly miss driving the car after that length of time.

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali:

"In terms of the development of the 150º Italia, we are almost at the end of the road but this does not mean that work on this year's car has come to a complete halt, but as of now, we are working full throttle on the 2012 car. As far as next year's regulations are concerned, apart from rules regarding the exhaust system, there are not many changes; therefore the new cars can be described as a development of the 2011 car. However, what I can say, having seen the model in the wind tunnel and the work going on in the drawing office, is that it will be a very innovative machine. In fact, this is to be expected, this is necessary given that our first goal is that, in 2012, we must be competitive right from the very start of the season."

Peter Sauber says he was surprised with Schumacher's return to F1, but feels it has been positive despite struggling.

Force India is taking the fight to the big teams says team boss Vijay Mallay.

Vijay Mallay
So we enter the second half of the season in high spirits. The drivers are pushing each other hard and are extremely motivated. The car is delivering good performance and we are taking the fight to the big teams. It was hard to imagine we would be in this position after our slow start to the year, but I never stopped believing. When you consider how competitive Formula One is, everyone in the team can be proud of where we are.

Williams rookie Pastor Maldonando wants to improve on his previous results this season.

Pastor Maldonado: I know Spa well having raced there in Italian Formula Renault (2003), Formula Renault V6 Eurocup (2004), World Series by Renault (2006) and GP2 (2008 – 2010). It is one of my favourite tracks and a place where I have achieved important results in my career, including victory in my Championship-winning GP2 season. I will enjoy the whole weekend in Belgium as it is a fabulous circuit, but Eau Rouge has to be my favourite corner. I’ll do my best to improve on our previous results and I can’t wait to get there.

DRS not critical for Spa says McLaren's Jenson Button

Button: "I don't think DRS will be as critical here as it's been at some of the
other circuits. I'm still not certain where it will be deployed, but
there's always been lots of opportunities to use the slipstream up the
hill out of Eau Rouge to pass into Les Combes. It'll be interesting to
see whether DRS can add even more to the show - it should hopefully be

"For us it is extremely important that this restriction is not given up totally. We do feel, however, that, especially for young drivers, it is quite a challenge to get into Formula 1 because they hardly have any opportunities to try the car. So we feel that if you consider allowing them to drive within the existing restrictions, I'm sure we could find a balance there. So as a team we wouldn't oppose such move provided we stay within the parameters of our resource restriction."
